OM NISHIO GAVE A PRESENTATION TO KANAGAWA TOFU ASSOCIATION

Mr. Tom Nishio, Japan Country Director, and Masi Tateishi, Marketing Manager, gave a presentation on “Imported Soybean Status and Future Trends“ at the Lecture Meeting held by the Kanagawa Tofu Association on December 2, 2007.  About 150 members from the Kanagawa Tofu Association participated in the meeting, and listened attentively to IM-Japan’s presentation. Mr. Nishio explained global soybean production and consumption, recent supply and demand for soybeans, and the biofuel (ethanol and biodiesel) movement, and he commented on the influence of biodiesel’s growth on the supply and demand of food grade soybeans in the U.S. The Tofu market is very concerned about the stable supply of non-GMO soybeans, and with the increased price and use of soybeans for biodiesel in the U.S.  Mr. Tom Nishio and Ms. Masi Tateishi supported the comments made by Mr. Dan Duran in November during his Food Bean Market presentation at the Soybean Conference in Japan, stressing USSEC/ASA-IM’s activities supporting the Japanese Tofu Market for more “win-win” situation, and stating that forward-contract production and higher premiums will be necessary in order to assure continued supply of U.S high quality food grade soybeans.
